Been a long time

My how time flies! We are busy working on our Maine Historical Society projects which will be on display throughout the summer at Maine Historical Society in Portland. Some of the students are creating book covers and magazine covers while others are recreating broadsides and still other students are working on manuscripts, photographs and ephmera! This has been a great experience and one that the children are sure to remember and be proud of for years to come.

Science

We are working really hard in our Earth Movements unit. On Wednesday we have a test on what we have learned so far in this unit. Mrs. Albert has a cool experiment set up for us on Thursday so we can learn about subduction. All she has told us so far is that it involves chocolate frosting...

Making Cookies

My mom was just getting ready make cookies. She just had a little more cleaning to do. I helped so it would be faster.We finished cleaning and got ready. First we washed our hands.Then we got the dough out and shaped them. I put reeces pieces in mine. And mms to. Then we were done with the shaping So we put the cookies in the oven. And waited 15 minutes. After that we frosted them and put sprinkles on. And like every person does ….. we ate them. And it was fun because it was just me, my mom, and rylee . And we only do that twice a year.
Only on birthdays and chrismas so that’s why.

There was one minute left, they have eight point and we have zero. It was our first game and we played the hardest team, the Scorpions. They were the best team. I told my coach that we needed to practice and we did. We had two practices a week. I was the goalie but I still had to do all the shooting drills. It was the next game, it was hard but we won! Ya! 5 – 3. We got confident that we could win every game.

The next game was against one of my best friends’ team. I was sweating like I was underwater in a pool. They had some big kicks but I stopped them. They were talking smack but I showed them. It was my teammate’s birthday and if we won we would get cupcakes. We won! The other team, the Tarantulas, was not that good. The cupcakes were good!

The next practice my shoe was coming off and I said, “Time! My shoe is coming off!”
My coach got mad and I learned my lesson. The next game I was on defense and my shoe came off. My coach was yelling, “Whose show is this? Whose shoe is this?”

We got to the tournament after we lost one game. There were three games in the tournament. We won the first one and the next one. We played kickball on breaks and that got us tired. It was our last game and we were tired. We beat this team so we had a good chance. We tried and tried but we lost. The good thing is that we got the trophy and I had a good time playing soccer.

We Skyped!

Today we Skyped with a multi-age 2/3 class in Allis, WI. We learned that those children have only 300 students total in their K - 5 school and we have about 800 in our 3 - 5 school. We thought that was kind of crazy. The kids from WI asked us if we liked pie, which of course we do! We also found out that their teacher dances on the table just like Mrs. Albert - what a strange thing to have in common. The other interesting fact is that both classes have boys named Dyllan - so we had them talk to each other.

Here Comes the Sun!

The weather outside is finally good! At recess we don't even need to wear our jackets - how cool is that? The sun is shining brightly here in Maine. There is no snow left and the brown grass is starting to get green. The ground is starting to dry out from all of the rain we received over the weekend. It is easy to walk around and see our friends at recess without all the snow and ice. Plants are starting to grow - we love that because it means summer is coming! This warming trend started about three weeks ago, normally in Maine March is the snowiest month of the year. The animals are starting to come out from their winter sleeping places.

When I got my gerbils it was my birthday but about 3 months after that one of my dogs stepped on the cage so the top of it broke and one of out and we didn’t find it till a week after it got out. My mom found it under her bed. But it had past away and I found all this out when I got home from the airport and I stared to sob so my brother came in my room and got my other gerbil came in allayed on top of me and just to let you know he’s 15 and my gerbil was on my head .But the next day we had to burry him but we buried him by my bunny. But we are going to see if it’s a girl or a boy so if it’s a boy we get another boy but if it’s a girl we get another girl so we don’t have baby gerbils but I want baby gerbils .I got a new one but we can’t put them in the same cage or they’ll fight and kill each other. But even though the other one died he’s in a better place.

Blinded by Science

We are getting very excited about our science day on Friday! Thank you to all our volunteers for helping with this day. The children will be participating in various science based activities like balloon science, making rockets, planting seedlings and bubble science.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We had a great day celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! Some of the children arrived at school dressed as their favorite Seuss characters, like Thing 1 and Thing 2, Max the dog, Sally and Cindy Lou Who. As an extra special treat other teachers visited our classroom and read us their favorite Dr. Seuss books.

This morning we picked a day for our Quiet Seat Reward time - on Friday, March 12th we will have a "science day". We brainstormed a list of science experiments that we would like to try and Mrs. Albert will be sending home a note asking for parent volunteers to help run different science centers. Some of our center ideas are: insect/creepy crawly hunt, make rockets, jumping raisins (and exploding Mentos), bubbles, static electricity and growing plants. Rain, Rain, Go Away!

We have had a very raining winter here in Maine and we'd love some snow to play in before winter is finished. A few of us are happy to see the rain because it is a sign of spring and then summer! This morning we had our morning meeting and played "Pass the Chicken", a fun game played with a rubber chicken we've named: Bacon Gravy. Then we had our Book Club time. Some of us are reading "The Cricket in Times Square" others are reading, "There's an Owl in the Shower" which sounds like a comedy but isn't! The rest of us are reading books like: "Charlotte's Web", "Judy Moody Saves the World", "My Father's Dragon" and "Cam Jansen". We love our book clubs, because we get to read with friends and some of us are doing our work on the computer! This afternoon we are making mosiacs in a special art class - we are really excited for this project! Our art work will be hanging in the school for years to come.
